I didn't think Jokela shooting spoils it, rather it mutated the "Finland is dead" statement into: "We have turned the guns against ourself", which is different from the iconoclasm I read as written into the last scene of the play.
I still haven't read the original Väinö Linna book but the state of "Finland" that went through the WWII was still multicultural, multilingual and politically divided. You can see that in the colorful backgrounds, dialects and motivations of the soldiers and their officers and the tension that diversity creates is one of the main themes of the text.
That diversity has been vanishing in the post-war urban population; nationalistic "Leijonat" monoculture is just empty projection with no historical roots or values, made up of detached individuals. So in my view the play is holding up a mirror, shooting at it and asking: "what do we attack when we attack ourself"?

It's not ready yet but what I saw was a rollercoaster: loud and very visual, although at points "the message" sank beneath both. After Jokela shootings some parts of the play had harsher connotations than I think was intended. It will irritate some of the 20 000 who've bought tickets in advance. I'll try to see it again sometime next spring.
